A method of measuring an edge of a workpiece by scanning, where scanning is performed by at least one scanning tool 44 mounted on a moving head 36 of an edge-facing machine 10 while that moving head is moved along the edge before, during or after an edge-facing tool 38 of the edge-facing machine faces that edge 42. The method may be performed by an edge-facing machine that comprises at least one edge-facing tool and that further comprises a scanning tool mounted on a movable head of the machine, which head is movable along an edge of a workpiece. The at least one edge-facing tool may be mounted on the movable head adjacent the at least one scanning tool, positioned on a distal side of the movable head, where the at least one scanning tool is orientated to emit an edge-scanning beam distally. |
