The station (1) has a base (4) for shutting-off steam iron. The base includes a water tank for storing water and a cold steam generation device for producing vapor. A steam iron part (2) is provided with an electrical sole heating device for heating salt. A manual or automatic operated control unit operates the station in normal operation mode with maximum power consumption and in minimal operation mode with reduced power consumption. The steam generation device and the sole heating device are energized in each mode of operation.
