The wedge-shaped tines of two forks of the fork pair respectively to the side of the startup collar and the startup collar-side end of the electrode cap, exhibits a parallelly running startup surface, where the sloping startup surface of the wedge-shaped tines are directly opposite to each other. An approximately U-shaped recess is formed by a distance between the tines of the fork. The first fork of the fork pair is held on a support against the force of at least one spring pivotably movable in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the electrode shaft. The first fork against the force of at least one spring movable along the support is arranged on the support. The first fork is provided with a radial slot through the support. The other second fork is provided in both directions transversely to the longitudinal axis of the fork fixed by the device. The drive device comprises two slides spaced one above another arranged in housing of the device. The slide of the support is provided for at least one first fork and the other slide is fixedly provided to the other second fork. The two slides are interconnected by a threaded spindle. The threads of the screw in the area of one slide are opposite to the threads of the screw in the area of the other slide so that the slides are moving towards or away from each other. The drive device comprises a motorized drive for the thread spindle. The slides are slidably guided by a guide stamp, which is arranged in the housing of the device. The guide stamp is provided respectively on both sides of the thread spindle. An approximately T-shape is formed in the top view of the arrangement of the guide stamp, the thread spindle and at least one fork pair.</p>
