[Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VI] Tertiary N-(monocarbamidomethyl) amines which are suitable for use as pesticides, drugs, textile modifying agents, stabilizers for halogenated resins, and as mould inhibitors in food products, and having the formula R1 (NR2-CHR3-NR4-CON-#R5) R6) m, where R1NR2- is the non-proton portion of a secondary amine, R3CH- is the non-oxo portion of an aldehyde, R4, R5, and R6 are hydrogen or monovalent hydrocarbon radicals, R1, R2, and R3 are hydrocarbon radicals, which may have phenyl, hydroxy, dialkylamino, aromatic nitro, or alkoxy groups, and R1 and R2 may contain a thioether sulphur, m is 1 or 2, are prepared by reaction in any order of a secondary amine free from primary and tertiary amino groups, an aldehyde and an acyclic urea having at least one H attached to a urea N. Examples give the preparation of morpholinomethylurea from morpholine, formaldehyde and urea, 1, 3-dimethyl-1-(dimethylaminomethyl) urea, 1, 1-diethyl-3-butyl-3-(dimethylaminomethyl)urea 1-butyl-3-(dimethylaminomethyl) urea, 1-butyl- 1 - (dimethylaminomethyl) urea, 1 - methyl -3 - ethyl - 3 - (dimethylaminomethyl) urea, 1 - ethyl - 3 - methyl - 3 - (dimethylaminomethyl) urea, 1 - (carbamidomethyl) piperidine, di - # - hydroxyethyl (carbamidomethyl) amine, methylbutyl (carbamidomethyl) amine, methylphenyl (carbamidomethyl) amine, diphenyl (carbamidomethyl) amine, methylbenzyl (carbamidomethyl) amine, NN1-dimethyl-NN1-bis (carbamidomethyl) ethylenediamine, 1, 4-bis (carbamidomethyl) piperazine, dimethyl (1- carbamidoethyl) amine, dimethyl-(α-carbamidobenzyl) amine, dimethyl (1-carbamido-2-phenylethyl) amine, dimethyl (1-carbamidopenten- 4-yl-1) amine, N N N1 N1-tetramethyl-1, 6- dicarbamido-1, 6-hexanediamine.
