Disclosed are a method for producing a high purity zinc oxide nano powder and a high purity zinc oxide nano powder produced through the same. The method for producing a high purity zinc oxide nano powder of the present invention comprises the steps of: (a) calcinating a byproduct generated during a brass scrap treating process at a high temperature for a set period of time as a pre-treating process; and (b) producing a zinc oxide nano powder by post-treating the sample from Step (a). By means of the present invention, a byproduct such as brass dross and dust, generated during a brass scrap recycling process is calcinated as a pre-treating process, so that a zinc oxide nano powder having a small particle size of purity 99.5% or more can be produced compared to existing zinc oxide nano powders.
