A method for synthesizing a chemical compound having a structure ofwherein R1 is one of CONHCH(CH3)2 and CONHC6H5, the method comprising steps of: (a) oxidizing 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid using CrO3 in dimethyl formamide to form a first compound having a structure ofwhere R is H; (b) oxidizing the first compound with m-chloroperbenzoic acid to form a lactone compound having a structure ofand (c) amidating an acid group at C-30 of the lactone compound with an amine to obtain the chemical compound, wherein the amine is an isopropylamine when R1 is CONHCH(CH3)2, and the amine is an aniline when R1 is CONHC6H5.
