1,212,483. Polyurethane prepolymers. NAPHTACHIMIE. 17 March, 1969 [18 March, 1968], No. 13873/69. Heading C3R. Polyurethane prepolymers containing terminal NCO groups are prepared by adding 100 to 5000 p.p.m. by weight of a hydrolysable metal halide selected from aluminium and titanium halides to a polyhydroxylated compound containing not more than 0À1% by weight of water and reacting the resulting product with an organic polyisocyanate at 50‹ to 100‹ C. The hydrolysable metal halide is preferably aluminium trichloride and/or titanium tetrachloride. Suitable polyhydroxylated compounds are polyols such as alkylene glycols, glycerol, trimethylolpropane, pentaerythritol, sorbitol and polyether polyols prepared by reacting ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide with the polyols. Aliphatic or aromatic polyisocyanates may be used. The prepolymers may be cross-linked by reaction with humid air, water, polyols, polyether polyols or polyamines.
