A method for producing a 4,4′-diformyldiphenylalkane represented by the following formula (2), containing formylating a diphenylalkane represented by the following formula (1) with carbon monoxide in the presence of hydrogen fluoride and boron trifluoride, in which the reaction temperature of the formylation is from −50 to 5° C., from 5 to 30 mol of hydrogen fluoride is used per 1 mol of the diphenylalkane, and from 1.5 to 5 mol of boron trifluoride is used per 1 mol of the diphenylalkane:;
wherein R represents an alkanediyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms,
;
wherein R represents an alkanediyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms. |

A method for producing a 4,4′-diformyldiphenyl alkane, the method comprising formylating a diphenylalkane represented by the following formula (1) with carbon monoxide in the presence of hydrogen fluoride and boron trifluoride: to form a 4,4′-diformyldiphenylalkane represented by formula (2): wherein:a reaction temperature of the formylation is from −35 to −25° C.;from 5 to 30 mol of the hydrogen fluoride per 1 mol of the diphenylalkane is present;from 1.5 to 5 mol of the boron trifluoride per 1 mol of the diphenylalkane is present; andR represents an alkanediyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms. |
