Catalyst containing antimony uranium oxides - for olefine oxidation

The catalyst (I) consists of a complex of oxides of antimony and uranium, having proportions of Sb:U of 1:1 to 99:1, formed by heating a gelled solution of salts of Sb and U in the presence of oxygen at above 100 degrees C. I may be supported on silica or aluminium. In an example the solutions are antimony chloride and uranium acetate in nitric acid. The gel is dried for 1hr. 20mins. at 110 degrees C, and the catalyst is calcined above 500 degrees C for 2-24hrs. I is used for oxidation or ammoxidation of olefines and is more selective and has higher activity than known catalysts.
