Heat is applied to the cable ends to cause the insulating core to melt at the ends. The core is replaced at these points by a sleeve of insulating material with a high m. pt. which is slid into position on the central conductor. Previous coaxial cables with an inner insulating material of a low m. pt. material such as expanded polyethylene were unable to withstand the temps reached in soldering.
|
