PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for monitoring an electromagnetic hydraulic valve of a variable valve timing system.SOLUTION: A reciprocal piston engine has a hydraulic-adjustable valve train that can be controlled using an electromagnetic hydraulic valve. In this constitution, a hydraulic valve includes an electromagnetic coil and a movable armature. The armature is designed to connect a control port to a high-pressure port or a low-pressure port in a hydraulic manner depending on energization of the coil. Furthermore, a control unit is provided. The control unit is designed to detect movement of the armature in response to the energization of the coil based on relative induction of the coil, and recognize failure when the predicted relative induction does not occur. |
