<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weld backing material that can prevent a weld omission, causes no mixture of foreign matters in a weld zone, and keep a surface of a solidified molten metal smooth and clean.SOLUTION: In a weld backing material 10 constituted by coupling a plurality of paralleled rod-like inorganic backing material components 12 with a metallic coupling sheet 14, each of the backing material components comprises a coupling sheet adhesive surface, a workpiece contact face, and first and second side wall surfaces. A first side wall surface 20 is convex in a cross section thereof, and a second side wall surface 22 is concave in a cross section thereof. When the weld backing material is in a flat state, the convex arc-shaped part of a backing material component adjacent to the concave arc-shaped part is fitted relatively shallow, and when the weld backing material is bent with the coupling sheet side directing outside, the concave arc-shaped part of the adjacent backing material component is fitted deep with the concave arc-shaped part.</p> |
