1302284 Blow-moulding; labelling E LANGECKER 19 May 1970 [12 June 1969] 24076/70 Heading B5A A weldable or adhesive sheet or film is applied as a label or plate to an article during blowmoulding by holding it tautly across the face of a plunger which face corresponds to the shape of the hollow body, with a gap between the label centre and plunger face and advancing the plunger during blow-moulding so that the label centre is pushed toward the plunger face on contacting the article and wrapped around the article. As shown in Fig. 3, the mould comprises halves 1, 2 and a strip is fed in a guide formed by members 12-14 and plunger 5 advanced by jack 6 to cut a label 15 therefrom against member 14, top and bottom transverse cuts (25, Fig. 1, not shown) having been made in the strip by means (23, 24). The label is held by seating surfaces 11 of the plunger 5 and clamps 16 operated by compression springs 21. Plunger 5 is further advanced, label 15 contacting the expanding parison 4 and being pressed toward the plunger surface (Fig. 4, not shown). The label is wrapped around the article when the plunger is fully advanced. Instead of clamps 16, the seating surfaces 11 may have vacuum passages (27, Fig. 7, not shown). The label may alternatively be cut from a horizontally, transversely moving strip (Fig. 8, not shown) or may be ready cut (Figs. 9-12, not shown). |
