The present invention provides a system and a method, for checking local area network (LAN) cables, which comprise: a master device which includes a plurality of test ports corresponding to a plurality of communications ports prepared in a patch panel unit and applies, at least for once, a tone generation signal to the test ports by switching the tone generation signal according to a predetermined signal period to check whether LAN cables connected to the patch panel unit are normal or abnormal when being connected to the communications ports of the patch panel unit and to classify the communications ports; and a remote device which is connected to ends of the communications cables corresponding to each of the communications ports of the patch panel unit to generate test information of the currently connected communications ports by detecting the tone generation signal and transmit the test information to the master device. The master device checks whether the LAN cables are normal or abnormal by analyzing the test information and using the generated checking information. The remote device operates in a first mode which the remote device provides signal line arrangement information included in the test information according to the control of the master device or operates in a second mode which the remote device provides the test information which includes the signal line arrangement information and additional information. |
