PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can reduce an operational force necessary at the opening/closing operation of an apparatus cover to improve usability.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a fixing device 20 that is provided in an apparatus body 50, where a pressure roller 22 is applied with pressure and brought into pressure contact with a fixing roller 21 to form a fixing nip; an apparatus cover 61 that is provided on the apparatus body 50 to cover the fixing device 20 in an openable/closable manner, and includes a cover hook 64 engaging with a cover hook pin 54 provided on the apparatus body 50 side; and a pressure mechanism 60 that applies pressure and stops the application of pressure to the pressure roller 22 against the fixing roller 21 in conjunction with the opening and closing of the apparatus cover 61. The pressure mechanism 60 is configured such that: a load necessary during pressurization where the fixing roller 21 and pressure roller 22 are brought into a pressurized state reaches a peak, before a load necessary for the cover hook pin 54 on the apparatus body 50 side to engage with the cover hook 64 of the apparatus cover 61 reaches a peak when the apparatus cover 61 is closed. |
