1293861 Fibres of phosphorylated polymers MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 17 June 1970 [18 June 1969] 29348/70 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Dye receptive fibres are melt spun from compositions comprising a fibre-forming polymer and 1 to 25% by weight of the polymer of a polymer containing units of formula where R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are hydrogen, alkyl or phenyl. The fibres may be steam stretched. Alternatively the compositions may be used to form the core or outer layer of a composite fibre, or to form films, strips or like articles. The fibres may be used to prepare spun-bonded products. The fibre-forming polymer may be a crystalline polymer of an olefin or aryl-substituted olefin, or an acrylic, vinylic, polyamide or polyester polymer. The modifier may be prepared by acid hydrolysis of reaction products of phosphorus trichloride with polymers containing carbonyl groups, e.g. copolymers of methyl vinyl ketone with styrene, butadiene, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate or acrylonitrile; or of styrene with methacrolein, cinnamic aldehyde, methyl isopropenyl ketone, benzol-acetone or benzol acetophenone. In examples melt spun steam stretched fibres are prepared from compositions of (1 to 4) polypropylene and (5) propylene/ ethylene copolymer and hydrolysed reaction products of phosphorus trichloride with (1 and 5) styrene/methyl vinyl ketone copolymer, (2) methyl methacrylate/methyl vinyl ketone copolymer, (3) butyl acrylate/methyl vinyl ketone copolymer and (4) styrene/methyl isopropenyl ketone copolymer. |
