PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine a background region in a method for separating a subject and a background by using the edge component of an image.SOLUTION: An image-capturing device, having image-capturing means for capturing a subject image formed by a photographing optical system and generating image data, comprises: focus detection means for setting a plurality of focus detection regions in accordance with a first instruction for photographing a subject and detecting a focus in each of the focus detection regions; selection means for setting a subject region in the plurality of focus detection regions and selecting, on the basis of the result of focus detection, a focus detection region as a candidate background region for the set subject region; photographing means for controlling, in accordance with a second instruction for photographing the subject, the photographing optical system following the result of focus detection in the set subject region and the focus detection region selected as a candidate, and thereby capturing a formed optical image and generating image data; determination means for determining the background region of the subject on the basis of the image data; and processing means for performing a prescribed process on the image data on the basis of the determination result. |
