[Also in Division D1] A stack of material laid-up on slats 30 by a laying-up machine 31 is lowered, by removal of the slats, on to a conveyer-belt 10 so that the forward end of the stack rests on a first portion 20 of a three-part cutting table 11. The conveyer belt is then moved bodily on wheels 13 to push the table over roller-conveyers 18, 21 and through an hydraulic press 12 until the end of the stack at the datum line 33 can be secured to the press by a clamping device 34; during this movement, links 23 slide into a table-supporting trolley 17 which in turn telescopes between the rollers 21. The conveyer-belt 10 is then returned bodily to its original position by its drive 15 while the belt itself is driven towards the press at the same speed. After the clamping device has been released, the portion of the stack lying on the second and third portions of the table is driven in stages through the press together with the table by the drive 15. The rest of the stack is fed through the press by repeated operation of the clamping device 34, drive 15 and conveyerbelt 10. The portion 20 of the table 11 may be provided with a supporting surface of low friction material, such as P.T.F.E. Frictional drag of the material over the second and third portions of the table may be avoided by arranging the clamping device to hold the stack above the level of the table and using rollers to hold the stack out of contact with those portions of the table. |
