An automatically operated rotary printing machine producing cards bearing printed matter and punched holes corresponding at least in part to the printed matter is similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,152,507 but is characterized by the data carrier having data recordings each recording corresponding to a line of printing on the master sheet, and comprising data characters arranged in a plurality of transverse rows on the data carrier. The digital value of each data character in a recording is dependent on the position of the character with respect to the direction of movement of the data carrier. Thus, in each sensing cycle of the data carrier, corresponding to a line of printing, the data carrier is transported in a series of row steps. |
