The purpose of the present invention is to add to a centralized control network an ancillary data transfer function having few constraints such as by transfer schemes. A communication system is provided with: a first network switch, which transmits a control message containing ancillary data to a network controller; the network controller, which retrieves and holds the ancillary data from the control message containing the ancillary data and transmits the control message containing the ancillary data to a second network switch; and the second network switch, which receives the control message containing the ancillary data from the network controller, retrieves each of a packet and the ancillary data to be output, and transfers the same to a specified destination.
