PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst capable of maintaining excellent catalytic performance even when exposed to an exhaust gas at 800°C or more.SOLUTION: There is provided an exhaust gas purification catalyst which is obtained by supporting a catalyst active component containing a noble metal and a cocatalyst component containing an oxygen storage material on a support. The oxygen storage material is obtained by supporting Fe on a surface of (a) a composite oxide or a solid solution containing Fe, Ce and Zr, or (b) a composite oxide or a solid solution containing Ce and Zr. The Fe content is 0.01 to 0.70 mass% (in terms of FeO) based on the total mass of the oxygen storage material. The structure is formed by sequentially laminating a first catalyst layer 3a containing the catalyst active component or the cocatalyst component and a second catalyst layer 3b containing the oxygen storage material on the carrier 1.
