PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric furnace steel capable of securing the quality of carburization equal to or above that of a Cr-Mo steel without adding Mo and having performance equal to or above that of a Cr-Mo steel.SOLUTION: Provided is an electric furnace steel made by an electric furnace using a scrap material, in which the steel contains, by mass, 0.12 to 0.28% C, 0.15% or lower of Si, 0.65 to 0.95% Mn, 0.035% or lower of P, 0.035% or lower of S, 1.35 to 1.90% Cr, 0.020 to 0.050% Al and 0.0080 to 0.0230% N, and the scrap material is selected in such a manner that Cu, Ni and Mo as impurities contained in the electric furnace steel contained in the scrap material satisfy inequality 1, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities: inequality 1:([Cu]+2×[Ni])×[Mo]≥0.0040. |
