A method of forming an electrostatic image on a first electro-photographic material 54 of a developed image 53 carried on a second such material 50 comprises uniformly charging the surfaces of the photo-conductive layers 51, 53 of the said materials to the same potential, placing the charged layers in contact, exposing the layers through a transparent support 52 of the second material to radiation and thereafter separating the two materials. Secondary discharges between the two layers are thus eliminated. On exposing the layers to radiation, the charge is dissipated in non-image areas, but remains in the image areas, Fig.6. An apparatus for carrying out the above process continuously, Fig.7 (not shown) comprises webs (70, 71) acting as the original and copy material respectively, and means for developing and fixing the transferred image.
