Provided is an imaging device and focusing control method that can rapidly carry out reliability determinations for a phase detection autofocus system. A phase detection autofocus processing unit (19) for a digital camera carries out correlation calculations for two images imaged by a pixel pair (P1), carries out correlation calculations for two images imaged by a pixel pair (P2), carries out correlation calculations for two images imaged by a pixel pair (P3), and carries out correlation calculations for two images imaged by a pixel pair (P4). A system control unit (11) determines the reliability of focus control by the phase detection autofocus system using pixel detection signals for each of the pixel pairs (P1 - P4) on the basis of these four results of the correlation calculations. |
