A high-density microchamber array (20) is configured through the formation, as a thin film, of a material film (24) having a thickness of 1 µm on the surface of a glass substrate (22); the formation, on the material film (24), of a plurality of microchambers (26) arranged at a high density and having diameters of 5µm; and the liquid sealing of the opening of each chamber (26) using a lipid bilayer membrane (30) in a state in which each chamber (26) is filled by an aqueous test solution. Making the microchambers (26) extremely small enhances the concentration change resulting from the reaction of a single biomolecule within a chamber and makes it possible to enhance detection sensitivity. Further, even if a biomolecular reaction is extremely slow, because a large number of microchambers (26) are formed at a high density, a reaction will occur in one of the chambers, and thus the biomolecular reaction can be detected with a high degree of sensitivity. |
