The present invention provides a gas generator that has an igniting means on one end side of a cylindrical housing and has a diffuser unit provided with a gas discharge opening on another end side, and that has a gas generating agent forming body and pressure raising agent forming body filled into a combustion chamber within the cylindrical housing, wherein: the gas generating agent forming body is filled so as to be in contact with the igniting means in filling spaces of a remainder excluding the filled part for the pressure raising agent forming body within the combustion chamber and such that the total volume of the gas generating agent forming body is smaller than the volume of the filling space; the pressure raising agent forming body is filled in contact with the gas generating agent forming body in a position away from the igniting means in the axial direction; a combustion temperature of the gas generating agent forming body is 1000 - 1700°C and the combustion temperature of the pressure raising agent forming body is higher than that combustion temperature; a filling mass for the gas generating agent forming body is greater than the filling mass of the pressure raising agent forming body; and, during operation, the pressure raising agent forming body is burned before the entire amount of the gas generating agent forming body is burned. |
