1,143,250. Mono-and di-alkyl diphenylamines. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. 23 Dec., 1966 [17 Feb., 1966], No. 57712/66. Heading C2C. A mixture of mono- and di-octyl- or nonyldiphenylamines containing at least 60% by weight of the dialkyl derivative is prepared by reacting diphenylamine with an octene or nonene under reflux conditions and in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst within the respective temperature ranges of 120-135‹ C. or 130- 160‹ C. at atmospheric pressure, there being employed at least 2 moles of alkene per mole of diphenylamine. The examples describe the alkylation of diphenylamine with diisobutylene and a nonene obtained by polymerization of propylene consisting mainly of dimethyl heptene. |
