A beet-harvester comprises a frame 2 carrying beet-lifting tools 3, 4, 5 and a sidedelivery device 11 arranged behind the tools and connected to the frame 2 so as to be pivotable about a vertical pivot 9 and to be fixable in various positions, a ground-engaging supporting member 16 being mounted at the rear of the sidedelivery device so as to be adjustable about a vertical pivot 13 and to be fixable in various positions relative to the device. In Fig. 1 the side-delivery device is a fixed vertical grating 11, but it can also comprise a row of rake wheels (Fig. 11). Either the grating 11 or the beam carrying the rakewheels forms one long side of a parallelogram-linkage 11, 12, the remaining sides being formed by the ground-wheel axle 14 and a bracket 6 by which the device is attached to the tool-carrying frame 2. A cable 19 joins points 18, 20 on the members 11 and 2 respectively, there being alternative positions 20 of attachment so that the angle of the member 11 to the line of draught is variable. The bracket 6 can have a slotted connection (Fig. 8, not shown) with the tool-bar 8 so that it may be twisted about a horizontal axis, in order to tilt the wheel 16 out of the vertical. The wheel may also be swivelled out of the line of draught by incorporating a turnbuckle 97 (Fig. 11) in the rear link 92 of the parallelogram linkage. In this construction the beam 47 is angled to the line of travel by rod 101 connected to a lever 108 pivoted on the frame 46 and extended forwardly to be accessible to the tractor-driver. The lever has a manually-releasable detent 110, 112 and the rod 101 also incorporates a turnbuckle 104. The beam 47 is pivoted universally to the attachment-bracket 71 a cable 79 being connected between the bracket and the rear of the beam to limit its downward movement. In Fig. 15 two side-delivery devices 137, 138 co-operate with six lifting tools 127, each device being rearwardly supported by a skid 143, 146 adjustable vertically and laterally and coupled to its neighbour by a telescopic coupling-rod 147. Grids 155, 159 are mounted adjacent to the skids to canalise the beets into a line. In a modification (Fig. 17, not shown), divergently-arranged sidedelivery rakes are mounted on the front of the propelling tractor to sweep trash and tops out of the path of the lifting tools. |
