<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a novel material, e.g. an intermediate product, and a novel method of using such a newly developed material so as to produce e.g. indeno-fused naphthols and related materials.SOLUTION: Lactone compounds of formulae (I) and (II) and a method of producing the lactone compounds are provided. A method of producing other materials, including condensed-ring indenole compounds, e.g. indeno-fused naphthols, and condensed-ring indenopyran compounds, e.g. indeno-fused naphthopyrans, from the lactone compounds is also provided. Lactone compounds selected from lactone compounds expressed by at least one formula of formulae (I) and (II) are provided by the methods.</p> |
