The method involves determining of depth information (d) along a parking section (20) while the vehicle is directed to the parking space by a distance sensor device (42) at the vehicle. The parking section has the parking space (10). The length of the parking space is calculated by processing of the depth information along the parking section. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a memory device; and (2) a navigation device.
