The present invention relates to apparatus for protecting land or buildings from flood water and a method of installing said apparatus. The apparatus comprises an elongate channel body 102 comprising a base 104 and first and further side walls (106 figure 2), 108 extending up from the base to define a channel opening between the side walls to receive and transfer surface liquid. A channel dividing member (110, figure 2) located between the side walls extends down towards the base dividing an interior of the channel body into a drainage portion 112 for receiving surface liquid and a chamber portion 114 in fluid communication with the drainage portion with a buoyant barrier member. The barrier member is located in the chamber portion and moveable between a first position in which the barrier member is located inside the chamber portion and a second position in which the barrier member extends from the chamber portion. The barrier member comprises two shoulder regions 120 located at opposite sides of the upper portion of the barrier member for respective engagement with first and second spaced apart abutment surfaces 140, 142 disposed in the chamber portion when the barrier member is in the second position. |
