[Also in Division H1] The handle 3 of a portable electric drill, hair dryer or food mixer is made of electrically-insulating material and a manually operable control switch 9 comprises fixed strip contacts 21, 22, 34, 35, 36 mounted directly in the handle 3 and bridging contacts 17, 18 carried by a trigger member 11 slidable in a recess 12 in the handle 3. The handle 3 is formed by two mouldings joined by screws 8 and is detachably mounted by means of a screw 4 and a lip 3a engaging a lug 2a. The trigger member 11 protrudes from the handle 3 for depression against spring-loading 14. The conductors 27, 28 of an input cable 29 are held against the contacts 21, 22 by flexible strips 30, 31. The contacts 34, 35 are connected by a diode 10 and arranged such that in a first operating position of the trigger member 11 the contact 35 is connected through the diode 10, the contact 34 and the bridging contact 17 to the contact 21 so that the motor M operates at reduced speed, and in a second operating position the contacts 35 and 21 are directly connected by the bridging contact 17 and the motor operates at full speed. A spring-loaded plunger 16 co-operates with a stop 15 on the trigger member 11 for retaining the trigger member in either operating position. When the handle 3 is fitted to the motor casing 2 two prongs 45, 46 projecting from the casing engage flexible strips 43, 44 held against the contacts 35, 36.</p> |
