The present invention is directed to water-resistant compositions comprising: a reaction product of at least one heterocyclic compound chosen from lactone compounds and their thiocarbonyl analogs, thiolactone compounds and their thiocarbonyl analogs, and lactam compounds and their thiocarbonyl analogs; and at least one compound having at least one functional group chosen from an amino group and a hydroxyl group; and optionally, at least one carrier. These water-resistant compositions are capable of providing or acting as a carrier for delivering benefits to various substrates, for example, keratinous substrates such as skin and hair, while at the same time, imparting durable or long lasting hydrophobicity and/or a protective barrier onto said substrates. |
