<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid construction machine enhanced in reliability by stopping the drive of a drive and control system of an electrical operation element when an electric motor generator or the drive and control system of the electric motor generator causes a failure. <P>SOLUTION: This hybrid construction machine includes an electric motor generator system which is connected to an internal combustion engine and operates an electric motor generator, a capacitor system connected to the electric motor generator system, a load drive system which is connected to the capacitor system and supplies regenerative power to the capacitor system, an abnormality detection part provided to the electric motor generator system, and a controller for determining an abnormality based on a value detected by the abnormality detection part.
