<p>To provide a cutting insert and a cutting tool which require only low manufacturing costs per cutting edge and which offer a very high tool stiffness, the cutting insert and cutting tool thus enabling efficient cutting. An upper surface (2) of a cutting insert (1) includes a first rake face (4a) and a second seating surface (8a). A lower surface (3) of the cutting insert includes a second rake face (4b) and a first seating surface (8b). The cutting edge includes a first cutting edge portion (5a) formed at a crossing edge line portion between the first rake face (4a) and a flank face (7) and a second cutting edge portion (6a) formed at a crossing edge line portion between the second rake face (4b) and the flank face (7). The first cutting edge portion (5a) and the crossing edge line portion between the first seating surface (8b) and the flank face (7) are positioned opposite each other. The second cutting edge portion (6a) and the crossing edge line portion between the second seating surface (8a) and the flank face (7) are positioned opposite each other.</p> |
