<p>Chlorinated aldehydes and related compounds of the general formula:- (in which R = H, Cl, Br; R' = H, CH3; R" = Cl, Br; X = O, S, NH; Y = alkyl residue C1-8; acyl residue C1-4, H; Z = Cl, Br, OH, arylthio. C1-8 alkyl thio, aryloxy; C1-8 alkoxy, or C1-4 acyloxy) possess herbicidal properties. In an example, application of 5-10 kg./ha trichloroacetic acid in 600 litres of water gave good results with the following grasses. Bromus secalinus, Lolium sp., Setaria italica, Panicum mibaceum, and Alopecurus pratensis.</p> |
