<p>Modified iron and table for applying a seam tape to part of a garment. The iron is fitted with a reel for dispensing a heat sensitive adhesive tape beneath the toe of the iron where local jets are fed with steam (piped continuously into the iron). The table for locating the fabric pattern and guiding the sweep of the iron pref. is porous and evacuated to assist consolidation of the tape and impregnation of the base fabric with the adhesive from the tape. Compared with hand lay-up stitching, the rate of seam formation can be increased, e.g. from 0.3 to 4.5 metres/minute.</p> |
