<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear axle with a simple and economic shock absorber mounting section which limits stress to be applied on suspension arms. <P>SOLUTION: The automobile rear axle (31) has two suspension arms (22) which swing in a substantially perpendicular plane around a shaft located ahead, and have a hub bracket (24) for supporting a rear wheel (34) behind the arm sections. In the rear axle (31) further including a torsion beam (8) connecting the two suspension arms (22), each of the suspension arms includes an opening, whose closed contour is substantially perpendicular, which is disposed in a width of the arm section ahead of a central axis of the hub bracket between the beam and the hub bracket.
