<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of obtaining a recording characteristic (OW characteristic) high enough to be suitable to high-density recording by improving magnetic coupling between a soft magnetic underlayer and a magnetic head and enhancing the vertical orientation of a perpendicular magnetic layer formed on an orientation control layer. <P>SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium configured by laminating at least the soft magnetic underlayer 2 on a non-magnetic substrate 1, the orientation control layer 3 for controlling the orientation of a layer right above, and the perpendicular magnetic layer 4 in which the easy axis of magnetization is oriented mainly perpendicular to the non-magnetic substrate 1 is used. In the magnetic recording medium, the orientation control layer 3 contains a CoIr alloy of a hcp structure subjected to c-axis orientation perpendicularly to a substrate surface, a crystal magnetic anisotropic constant perpendicular to the substrate surface showing a negative value, and the perpendicular magnetic layer 4 contains columnar crystals continuing in a thickness direction with respect to crystal grains constituting the orientation control layer 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
