Pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of peripheral circulatory disturbances especially venous diseases e.g. thrombosis and varicose prophylaxis, non-cardiac oedemas and ulcus cruris varicosum having vasodilator activity and an increased tone of the veins effect comprise raubasine and/or a salt thereof e.g. phosphate (also known as ajmalicine, d - yohimbine and pytetrahydrosepentine) in admixture with a sterile, injectable inert liquid pharmaceutical carrier in admixture with a solid inert pharmaceutical carrier, said compositions being in the form of dosage units each containing at least 10 mg raubasine and/or salt thereof. The liquid carrier is preferably water optionally containing at least one solubiliser e.g. ethanol and/or stabiliser e.g. ethylene-diamine and/or buffer e.g. citrate or tartrate, and/or a viscosity regulator e.g. a liquid polyethylene oxide. Tablets for oral administration contain conventional solid excipients including flavouring and/or sweetening agents.
