A display for indicating an amount consists of a scale 11 and an indicator 24 suhc as a needle movable with respect to the scale 11. Different scales are provided for different purposes, and are changeable without altering the instant position of the indicator 24. The display may indicate the state of charge of a battery of a hybrid electric vehicle having an internal combustion engine and motor/generator, different scales having maxima corresponding to different nominal or optimum states of charge. The invention can be helpful in avoiding fully charging the battery too frequently. The main scale may be focussed on a 25% minimum to 75% maximum, whilst a range extension (25 see fig 3) is available for higher charges. This may be revealed via a shutter or by projection. |
