<p>1279281 A collapsible cellular partition unitmaking machine UNION CAMP CORP 24 June 1968 [24 June 1968] 31900/69 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] In a machine for continuously making a collapsible cellular partition unit 1 comprising two spaced flexible sheets 2, 3 and a plurality of webs 4 secured therebetween, webs 4 are drawn and formed from a roll 24 and slitting mechanism 25, scored at 26 along lines 6, 8 to form a U-shape (Fig. 8) or a Z-shape to form flaps 5, 7, and turned to travel parallel to and be enveloped between sheets 2, 3 by a draw 29, sheets 2, 3 being each drawn from a roll 19, 20, scored at 22 along lines 11, 14, 15 to form end walls 13, 10 and flaps 12 and coated with adhesive lines 9 at 28. After the draw 29 which presses together sheets 2, 3 via flaps 12 and glue lines 9 and which presses each web 4 to sheets 2, 3 via flaps 5, 7, the secured webs and sheets travel to a cut-off 30 that chops off individual units 1 which are delivered by pinch rolls 31 to a turning drum 32 where glue lines (16, Figs. 3, 4) are applied to the exterior surface of sheet 2 and/or sheet 3 by means 34 and each unit 1 is passed to a station 35 where the required number of units 1 are superimposed so that adjacent sheets 2, 3 of separate units 1 may be bonded together (37, Fig. 7) with each upper unit offset one cell from its lower unit (Figs. 4, 5, 9) to form an integral collapsible partition. A partitioned box may be formed by securing a collapsed unit(s) to a box blank (38, Fig. 9) having adhesive lines thereon.</p> |
