Multicolour paints are produced by mixing together two or more aqueous precipitated or gelled pigmented phases in a separate continuous phase. The aqueous phases preferably contain as binder a vinyl acetate homo- or copolymer or polyvinylalcohol with borax present as gelling agent. The continuous phase preferably comprises a solution or dispersion of a clay in a film forming material.
