Disclosed is a method of testing the fuel cut off valve in an internal combustion engine. The method comprises the steps of holding the fuel metering valve open for a predetermined time after receiving a closing command and then closing the valve, measuring an engine operating parameter, such as an engine speed gradient or an engine pressure gradient, during the open and close stages and using changes in the measured parameter to determine whether or not the fuel cut off valve is operational. |
