1322525 Pile fabrics TEIJIN Ltd 12 Oct 1970 [13 Oct 1969 25 May 1970] 48423/70 Heading D1K A pile fabric is made by feeding a sheet of thermoplastic yarns 1 into a stuffing chamber 3 to form corrugations 1', passing the corrugated sheet into a gap 6 defined by two conveyor belts 4, 4', where an electrically heated wire 5 crossing the gap 6 transversely and spaced slightly away from one of the belts 4, melts through the bottoms of the loops and simultaneously fuses them together to form a backing layer 8 and the loops to the backing layer to form a pile layer. The backing layer may then be strengthened by impregnating it with a foamed synthetic resin 15 from a supply tank 14 and hardening the resin with a heated roller 16. A vacuum nozzle 17 may be positioned opposite the supply tank 14 to draw the resin into fabric. The fabric may be formed with irregular loops of varying height (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) by feeding the sheet 1 of varns irregularly into the stuffing chamber 3, or by creating a disturbance in the stuffing chamber 3. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), wires 5 may be positioned on both sides of the gap 6 and the emerging fabric sliced along the middle to form two cut pile fabrics: |
