A multi-compartment flexible pouch with an insulated compartment and method of forming includes a pouch body formed from a panel of material, and the pouch body has at least one compartment for a product. An opening means for accessing the product is disposed in the pouch body. A first insulating compartment seal having a predetermined shape is applied to the pouch body and a second insulating compartment seal having a predetermined shape is applied to the pouch body and spaced a predetermined distance apart from the first seal to form the insulated compartment. The insulated compartment contains a pressurized gas and a surface temperature of the insulated compartment is less than a surface temperature of the product compartment after the pouch is heated.

1. A multi-compartment flexible pouch with an insulated compartment, comprising:
a body of the pouch formed from a panel of material, wherein the pouch body includes at least one compartment for a product; an opening means for accessing the product disposed in the pouch body; and a first insulating compartment defined by a first seal spaced apart from a second seal, the first seal defining an upper edge of the pouch, the first seal extending along an axis, the second seal having an outer edge exposed within the first insulating compartment seal and spaced apart from the first seal, the outer edge following an undulating pattern so as to define a scalloped shaped seal, wherein the first insulating compartment is dimensioned to be gripped by a user, and wherein the first insulating compartment is filled with gas to a predetermined pressure, the gas filled first insulating compartment reducing the temperature of the surface of the first insulating compartment relative to the temperature of the surface of the product compartment when the pouch is heated, facilitating the grip of a heated pouch by the first insulating compartment.
