A screw gill-box has a buffer 7 of resilient, wear resistant material, e.g. a hard polyurethane elastomer, arranged at the ends of the return slides. 5 which receive the impact of fallers 1 as they are moved from engagement with slides 2 into engagement with the return slides 5, the buffer engaging the central portion of the faller at spaced positions 18 and the buffer itself being unsupported at these positions. The fallers are driven along the slides by means of screws 3 and 6. The ends of the slides 5 which receive the impact of the fallers are preferably extended in cantilever fashion beyond a rigid mounting to cushion the ends of the fallers. The buffer 7 is supported by a rail 12 which may itself be recessed instead of providing arches 9 in the buffer. When both the buffer and the slides 5 are of the same material they may be constructed as a single unit. |
