1,209,791. Colorant paste dispersions. GAP CORP. 10 Jan., 1968 [19 Jan., 1967], No. 1547/68. Heading C4A. [Also in Division C3] A free-flowing colorant paste dispersion containing 10-65% by weight colorant solids comprises an inorganic or organic pigment, or dyestuff, a hydrocarbon liquid medium having a Kauri Butanol value less than 45, and a dispersant which is an alkylated polymer of a heterocyclic N-vinyl monomer having a C 2 - C 2000 alkyl radical, the polymer being in an amount 1-300% by weight of the pigment weight. The dispersant is preferably derived from an N-vinyl lactam monomer, particularly N-vinyl pyrrolidone. Suitable hydrocarbon media include naphthas, kerosenes, mineral spirits, "Isopars" (Registered Trade Mark), cycloalkanes, aliphatic hydrocarbons and mixtures thereof. Titanium dioxide, carbon black, chrome yellow or green, ultramarine blue, lithopone, oxide yellow, ferric oxide, lead chromate molybdate and numerous organic colorants are listed. The ingredients are mixed conventionally, e.g. by ball-milling. |
