The methods generally involve reducing the acidic gas content of combustion gases passing through a duct by injecting hydrated lime or pulverized quicklime into the duct by use of a shrouded injector which reduces the incidence of occlusion of the injector.

A method for reducing the acidic gas content of an effluent gas passing through a duct, the duct having a wall, the method comprising: introducing hydrated lime or pulverized quicklime into a shrouded injector, the injector comprising: an inner tube that forms an inner passage;an outer tube shrouding the inner tube, the inner tube and outer tube forming an annular passage between the inner tube and outer tube, the hydrated lime or pulverized quicklime being introduced into the inner passage of the inner tube; andan outlet end; introducing ambient air into the annular passage formed between the inner tube and the outer tube; introducing conditioned air into the inner passage formed by the inner tube; discharging the hydrated lime or pulverized quicklime from the outlet end of the injector into the duct to react the hydrated lime or pulverized quicklime with acidic gas thereby reducing the concentration of acidic gas in the effluent gas, the ambient air being discharged from the outlet end of the injector to inhibit occlusion of the outlet end.
