560,343. Rope railways. SMITH, R. H. July 15, 1943, No. 11530. [Class 104 (ii)] Logs are conveyed from an upper to a lower level by a cable 1 on which the logs run by gravity by means of wheels 9. At the lower level a buffer is arranged comprising two sets of timbers 16 ... 21 and 23, 24 with brushwood 27 between. The front timbers carry a metal plate 22. In another form, only one end of the tree is carried by the wheels 9, the other untrimmed end dragging on the ground to act as a brake. A number of chains 8 and wheels 9 are periodically pulled up to the loading station by a smaller travelling cable which is coupled at its free end to one of the wheels on 1 and the cable is then wound up by a winding gear at the loading station.
